I see ways to do it on the inferno web but was checking for pointers before giving it a try. Lead balls, explosion proof electrical, and out in an open field a hundred feet away from anything you dont want to ...
Ball milling the mixed ingredients is genuinely essential to actually getting good BP. Mill the components separately, sift them, mix, mill, then pressing/corning. The "Wet method" or "CIA method" of mixing using ethanol doesn't give as intimate a mixture, and the resulting BP is completely unsuitable for many pyrotechnic applications due to ...

1. Should flash powder also be fast to get the wanted effect? (wanted effect is an explosion from a firecracker, for context) 2. Is it possible to get better, faster KNO3/Al/S flash powder using normal aluminum, not dark? 3. Is it possible to improve said flash powder using other methods (not including using different ingredients) 4.
A ball mill, a type of grinder, is a cylindrical device used in grinding (or mixing) materials like ores, chemicals, ceramic raw materials and paints. Ball mills rotate around a horizontal axis, partially filled with the material to be ground plus the grinding medium. Different materials are used as media, including ceramic balls, flint pebbles ...
The Washburn Mill explosion in 1881 was celebrated, but it seems to have been a far from infrequent occurrence; writing in Scientific American, we hear of a malt dust explosion: On the 4th of July, 1880, a common lucifer match' among the malt was ignited in the malt mill, in which are two steel grinders, which make about 150 revolutions a minute.
Planetary ball mills are well known and used for particle size reduction on laboratory and pilot scales for decades while during the last few years the application of planetary ball mills has extended to mechanochemical approaches. Processes inside planetary ball mills are complex and strongly depend on the processed material and synthesis and, thus, the optimum milling conditions have to be ...

Posted 31 July 2015 07:37 PM. Glass marbles was the cause of one explosion that I know of.. You should always baracade the mill with heavy sand bags. If it were to blow you want the stuff to go up not sideways.. But yeah pretty darn safe using proper media and rubber jar.
Dropped charges experienced in large ball mills can be heard and felt hundreds of meters away and can be confused with an explosion or earthquake onsite, such is the force of the impact.
Basic Safety Checks for Hammer Mills. In terms of safety checks, Jim recommended the following: Using a magnetic separator to ensure that tramp metal doesn't come into the mill itself. Prevent buildup in the grinding chamber, so that heat doesn't create a source of ignition. Checking to make sure that the bearings are not running hot.

Construction of Ball Mill. The ball mill consists of a hollow metal cylinder mounted on a shaft and rotating about its horizontal axis. The cylinder can be made of metal, porcelain, or rubber. First run with ceramic media.. I can not see any obvious reason for this to happen other than a spark from within, however [thankfully] I was not there when it went off. And there are other possibilities, like contamination with a stray piece of metal in the charcoal or maybe it was leaking powder, but I don't have any evidence of that.
