Go fight the Green, Red, and Blue dragons in the Dragon lords castle. It's way faster than the Metal Slimes in DQ1. (Switch version names). The other enemies in the Dragon lords castle also give decent exp.
Grinding isn't too difficult, spend an hour or two on the metal hands. Use the pep power as it comes up. You only need to be 6570 to actually beat the final boss, but everything in act 3 is considered post game and the "true ending" since you technically beat the game in act 2. Do the other quests and what not.
